Sober Companions in Dallas

At Campbell Recovery Services, we know that early recovery can be one of the most challenging times in an individual’s journey. That’s why we offer Sober Companions—trained, compassionate professionals who provide real-time support, accountability, and guidance during critical moments.

What is a Sober Companion?

A Sober Companion is a professional who supports individuals in maintaining sobriety by offering one-on-one assistance during high-risk situations, daily routines, and transitions. Unlike therapy or coaching, a sober companion is physically present to help clients navigate real-world challenges in real time.

Our Sober Companions are experienced Life and Recovery Coaches who understand the complexities of addiction, triggers, and the importance of structure in recovery.

How a Sober Companion Differs from a Therapist, a Coach, or a Sponsor

These roles overlap, and the words often get used interchangeably. They are not the same thing.

A therapist works clinically — assessing and treating mental health concerns, in scheduled sessions.

A Life and Recovery Coach works non-clinically. Coaching focuses on action, accountability and support: setting goals, building routines, developing coping strategies, and navigating the practical side of life in recovery.

A sponsor is a peer from a twelve-step fellowship — a volunteer role inside that program, not a professional service.

A sober companion is closest to coaching, with one difference that matters: the companion is physically present with the client rather than meeting them at an appointment. At Campbell Recovery Services, sober companions are the same Life and Recovery Coaches. The difference is where the support happens, not who provides it.

When People Work with a Sober Companion

Sober companion support is arranged around the moments when being on your own is hardest.

  • High-risk situations — the events, places and pressures a person already knows they find difficult.
  • Daily routines — the ordinary shape of a day, and the structure around it.
  • Transitions — the point of moving from one stage of recovery to the next.

What that looks like differs from person to person. The starting point at Campbell Recovery Services is a mental health assessment.

Which of these belong together is a case-by-case question, not a fixed package.

Common Questions About Sober Companions

What is a sober companion?

A sober companion is a professional who provides one-on-one support in person, rather than in scheduled appointments. The role centers on being present during high-risk situations, daily routines and transitions in early recovery.

What does a sober companion do?

Day to day, a sober companion offers support, accountability and guidance in real time — in the situations a person finds hardest, as they happen. The specifics depend on the individual.

What is the difference between a sober companion and a recovery coach?

At Campbell Recovery Services the same Life and Recovery Coaches provide both. Coaching is generally structured around sessions and check-ins; companion support happens in person, alongside the client. The difference is the setting, not the person or the approach.

What Those Who Know Us Best Are Saying

I’ve never had such a positive therapy experience in my life! It wasn’t easy to seek out support and doubted I’d find someone I connected with who could see me on the very limited hours I was available, but John from Campbell Recovery Services took all of my limitations and requests into account. Can’t recommend this place enough.

I have referred many clients to Campbell Recovery Services and have received great feedback about their service.
