From feeling sad most of the time and losing interest in things that you once enjoyed to not being able to get out of bed, depression can have a very different effect on people. Just like depression can show itself in different ways, what helps can vary greatly from person to person. It is important to seek out help if you are experiencing symptoms of depression. These feelings are not something that you have to carry on your own, and support is available.
Campbell Recovery Services is an outpatient counseling practice in Dallas, and we provide talk therapy and counseling for people living with depression. Reaching out is often the hardest part, and it is a reasonable first step whether things have been difficult for a few weeks or for a long time.
Talking with a counselor who is experienced with depression is an important step toward understanding what you are carrying and how to manage it. At Campbell Recovery Services we begin by assessing your mental and emotional well-being, and then work with you on what would actually help in your situation.
Speaking with a counselor can go a long way toward managing depression over the longer term. Through counseling you can build a clearer understanding of your own emotional needs, and of how to give yourself the support and care those needs call for. Having someone who listens closely, week after week, and reflects back what they notice, is a different kind of help than advice from the people around you.
Depression tends to be easier to carry when it is addressed rather than waited out, and counseling is one of the ways people do that. The aim of the work is not to talk you out of how you feel, but to help you understand what is driving it and to build ways of managing it that hold up in ordinary life.
The team at Campbell Recovery Services works with people experiencing depression, including where it sits alongside grief, trauma, a substance use concern, or a difficult period in a relationship. Our counselors can help you find your footing again and work out what support would make a difference.
You do not have to keep carrying this on your own. Contact Campbell Recovery Services and we can talk through what kind of support would fit.
Depression is not always obvious, and it does not always look like sadness. For some people it shows up as flatness rather than grief — nothing is especially wrong, and nothing is especially good either. For others it is physical first: sleeping too much or too little, no appetite or too much of one, a heaviness that makes ordinary tasks feel disproportionate.
It often shows up in what quietly stops happening. Messages go unanswered. Things you used to look forward to get declined. Work still gets done, but it takes everything you have, and there is nothing left afterward.
The National Institute of Mental Health describes depression as taking several different forms, including major depression, and notes that it is commonly addressed with talk therapy, medication, or a combination of the two. Reading about it can help you put words to what is happening, but a description on a website is not a diagnosis. That is a conversation to have with a professional.
We think it is worth being clear about this, because depression care is often described in ways that blur it.
Campbell Recovery Services provides outpatient counseling and talk therapy. We are not a treatment center, a hospital or a psychiatric practice, and we do not prescribe or manage medication.
Where medication is part of someone’s care, that comes from a medical provider. Campbell Recovery Services works alongside physicians, psychiatrists and other healthcare professionals, and coordinates with them and with higher levels of care when that is appropriate. If what you need turns out to sit outside what we provide, we would rather tell you that early and help you find the right place than take you on regardless.
Most people start with a mental health assessment, which is the first step in the therapy process here and exists so that the work begins from an accurate picture. Where depression is showing up alongside something else, we also provide anxiety therapy, grief and loss therapy, trauma therapy and crisis management, so related concerns can be handled together.
Do I need a diagnosis before I come in?
No. Most people start with a mental health assessment, and working out what is going on is part of the process rather than something to complete beforehand.
Do you prescribe antidepressants?
No. Campbell Recovery Services provides counseling and talk therapy. Medication comes from a medical provider, and we coordinate with physicians and psychiatrists where that is part of someone’s care.
Who would I be working with?
A counselor from our Dallas team. The team includes Licensed Professional Counselors, and individual credentials are listed on our team page.
What if my depression is tied to something else?
That is common. Depression frequently sits alongside grief, trauma, anxiety or a substance use concern, and it is usually more workable when those are addressed together rather than separately.

I’ve never had such a positive therapy experience in my life! It wasn’t easy to seek out support and doubted I’d find someone I connected with who could see me on the very limited hours I was available, but John from Campbell Recovery Services took all of my limitations and requests into account. Can’t recommend this place enough.
I have referred many clients to Campbell Recovery Services and have received great feedback about their service.
